Thanksgiving is a time to look back on the past year and have gratitude for the things in one’s life. While 2020 has been a hard year for many, the hardships may allow for a deeper sense of appreciation for the good things this holiday season. That is true for Eric Church, who is reflecting on the most important aspects of life going into Thanksgiving.
“You know, this has been a hell of a year, and one thing I’m most thankful for is my family, their health,” he shared prior to the holiday. “We’ve all, I think, grown closer during this.”
Church, like every other musical artist, has not been on tour
this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The singer is optimistic when looking
towards the new year, however, and he believes life should be back to normal
come 2022.
“I’m looking forward to a more normal 2021,” he continues. “I don’t know if it’ll be normal, but it will be more normal and getting closer to that and then an absolutely normal 2022 is how I see the next two years. For me, I’m just thankful that I’ve been with my family and we’ve all stayed healthy and I’ve gotten to hang out with them.”
Although Church hasn’t been touring, he did win the Entertainer
of the Year Award at the CMA Awards on Nov. 11. He referenced the strange year
and spoke of music’s uniting quality in his acceptance speech.
“If there was ever a year not to win this award,” he said
as he accepted the prize. “This award this year, at least for me, has been
about the loss of this year. Loss of life, loss of playing shows, loss of
freedom, loss of kids being in school.
“It’s going to be music that brings us out of this,” he continued.
“That is the one thing that is going to save the entire world. Politicians are
about division, music is about unity. And I promise you, it’s going to take
everyone in this room to unite.”
