On episode #269 of his podcast, the BobbyCast, Bobby Bones chatted with Morgan Wallen about how he got into music and his journey to fame. The singer also addressed the recent controversy that led to him being pulled from a Saturday Night Live performance slot after he was seen at a crowded bar in Alabama, therefore breaking the show’s COVID-19 protocols. The subject was brought up toward the end of the interview, and while Bones and Wallen both understood the reasoning for SNL’s decision, Bones defended the singer.
“I understand the COVID stuff, but I was like what do you want
from this guy,” said Bones. “He’s 27 years old. People were just having fun.”
Wallen responded, sharing that he understood why many people, and
Saturday Night Live, reacted the way they did. He also said he strives
to become more “mindful” of these kinds of situations, especially as a role
model to young fans and a new father.
“I understand both sides of it a little bit,” he says. “I know
that I’ve got young kids that look up to me and all those kinds of things too.
I do want to be mindful of things. I’m not going to let people control the way
I live my life, but I do also want to be mindful. And, honestly, I have a son
now, and I don’t want know that I’d be proud to show him those videos.”
After the situation at the Alabama bar occurred, Wallen took some
time to himself and was able to address another issue that he had been dealing
with in his life: loneliness.
“Throughout this whole process, there’s been times where, for a while, I would just be like, ‘Man, I’m kind of lonely, and I don’t know if I even like this,’” he said. “And then there’s another high and you’re like, ‘I love this,’ and it kind of goes through phases.
“It was kind of a good thing for me,” he continues, referring to
the time off. “It kind of forced me away to just reflect and look at myself and
kind of get to know myself again, and it was good for me.”
Bones related to Wallen on that front, sharing that he had been
through a similar experience in his life.
“It’s almost like a drug,” Wallen responded.
Other than the SNL situation, Bones and Wallen also took a deep dive into the singer’s past, from when he was a baseball player who wasn’t even thinking about doing music, to when his mom signed him up for The Voice and his life slowly began to change.
